Last week, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggested she was open to completely removing the Department of Homeland Security. During a Friday appearance on the New Yorker Radio, host David Remnick asked Ocasio-Cortez,
“Would you get rid of the Department of Homeland Security, too?” “I think so,” the congresswoman said. “I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious, umm, a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did.”
The freshman congresswoman — who last month compared border detention facilities to concentration camps — tends to take things to the extreme, but she furthered that this was a “very qualified and supported position.” Ocasio-Cortez remains silent on the dangers of abolishing ICE, CBP, and DHS. DHS was recently targeted by a cyber-attack, to which the Congresswoman also had no public response.
