Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will introduce a resolution declaring a climate change emergency on Tuesday since their Green New Deal failed a test vote in the Senate earlier this year.
Lukas Mikelionis at Fox News reported that the resolution is co-sponsored by Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer, and “will call for a wide-scale mobilization to combat the emergency and restore the climate ‘for future generations.’”
“It remains unclear how the new resolution differs from the Green New Deal,” Mikelionis wrote, “though a spokesperson for Sanders told the magazine that unlike President Trump’s emergencies, the climate change declaration warrants the use of emergency powers.”
Ocasio-Cortez and Blumenauer urged fellow Congress members to declare climate change an emergency so that they might “swiftly mobilize federal resources in response.”
