A 17-year-old has been charged in the beating death of a homeless man who was expected to testify against alleged MS-13 gang members.
The teenager, who cops did not identify, was arrested Saturday by Nassau County Police and charged with second-degree murder. Wilmer Maldonado Rodriguez, 36, was found beaten to death on Feb. 2 at an abandoned residence in New Cassel.
Police say Rodriguez was severely beaten and stabbed by alleged MS-13 members in October 2018 after his identity was revealed to the defense during the pre-trial process, Newsday said.
He was due to testify against his alleged attackers prior to his death.
The 17-year-old was facing arraignment Sunday on second-degree murder in the juvenile division. The teenager’s next court appearance is Tuesday.
