President Donald Trump has appointed Jovita Carranza, the current Treasurer of the United States, to serve as the United States Small Business Administrator. Raised in a Mexican immigrant household in Chicago, Carranza is filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Linda McMahon.
According to PolitiWeek.com, “Carranza is currently serving as the U.S. Treasurer and previously served as the Deputy Administrator for the Small Business Administration. Following the announcement, McMahon took to Twitter saying Carranza will make a wonderful fit, adding, “I know her well and I am a huge fan.”
Diversity has its value, and while there is much benefit to having a female and a Latina serving in this Cabinet post, it’s most important that the president chose Carranza because of her experience and qualifications.
As the sitting US Treasurer, Deputy SBA Administrator from 2006-2009, and Vice President of Air Operations for The United Parcel Service (UPS) Carranza is a seasoned executive with an excellent track record.
