On Sunday afternoon, President Trump took to Twitter and threatened to destroy Iran. This tweet comes after reports that a rocket was fired into Baghdad’s Green Zone — less than a mile away from the US Embassy.
“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!,” Trump tweeted.
No one knows what prompted Trump’s posting, but New York Post writer Mark Moore reported that “tensions have been heightened between Washington and Tehran after reports said Iran was planning to carry out attacks on American troops and ships in the region.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the rocket, but due to reported explosions in Baghdad and the discovery of a rocket launcher in the eastern side of the capital where Iranian-backed Shiite militias reside, US officials have signaled in reports that Iran encouraged Iraq-based Iranian militants to carry it out.
