President Trump said Monday that next week U.S. Authorities will begin removing millions of immigrants who are illegally residing in the United States.
Trump tweeted that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency will "begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States.” Trump did not offer specifics, but said “they will be removed as fast as they come in."
The Thomas Reuters Foundation News reported that there are about 12 million illegal immigrants, mainly from Mexico and Central America, currently in the United States.
Eric Beech at Rueters wrote that the likely destination of the immigrants will be Guetemala, which both Vice President Mike Pence and President Trump have referred to as a potential safe-third country, and Mexico, who “has agreed to take Central American immigrants seeking asylum in the United States until their cases are heard in U.S. courts.”
